A question. An answer.

Here's the beginning of the story. It's the seed for the blog.

Matt & I wait in the Diego Rivera Court at the DIA to meet friends - with the intent of visiting the Ansel Adams exhibit. The court is my favorite place in the museum! And the friends are stuck in traffic, so we are enjoying each other's company & peoplewatching. There are seemingly millions of kids in the museum on field trips on this day. At one point, we are standing together in the middle of the room and a tour guide comes along and loudly tells us, "Excuse me! We have a tour group coming through!" I am not sure why she felt that we needed to move. I guess she wanted our spot. We were kind of thrown off by it and Matt asked if I wanted to go outside to wait for our friends.

Once outside, Matt decided to call the friends and leave a message. He told them that we were going to run over to the Detroit Public Library to look at a Student Art Exhibit while we wait for them. We headed over there and up to the 3rd Floor into a beautiful room where the exhibit was being held. We started chatting in a quiet corner of the room, not really paying that much attention to the art. And Matt started telling me all sorts of sweet things and then he asked me to marry him and I said YES. Actually I think I said YES about 18 times.

And I jumped up and down and hugged him a million times. And then Matt put the most beautiful and perfect ring on my finger. (And told me that our friends were not really coming!)

We had been to the DIA and DPL on our first date, so the location was awesome. Come to find out - Matt was planning to propse in the Rivera Court. He had actually started saying all of those sweet things to me and was moments away from getting down on one knee when that tour guide (remember her?) came along and RUDELY interupted. His plan was foiled! But he was quick on his feet and recovered amazingly. We are both librarians, we had a class together in library school, we re-met at a library conference - so it is fitting that we get engaged at a library, too!

That night, Matt had made us a reservation at the Rugby Grille for a fabulous dinner. It was such a wonderful and perfect day. Everything that he had planned was so sweet. Sigh ... love is so grand!
